Review Methodology

We use the following framework to structure our email marketing software research and reviews. It describes the questions we consider, rather than claiming that every platform has been tested or rated.

Our evaluation framework

  • Ease of Use: How straightforward are setup, navigation, and everyday campaign tasks?
  • Automation: Which triggers, conditions, and workflows are available? Which features depend on the subscription plan?
  • Deliverability: What authentication tools, sending controls, and reporting are available? These features alone do not establish inbox placement or guarantee delivery.
  • Templates: How adaptable are the templates, and how well do the editor and mobile layouts support everyday use?
  • Integrations: Does the platform connect with relevant business tools? What limitations, additional costs, or setup requirements apply?
  • Pricing: How do contact limits, sending allowances, feature tiers, and additional charges affect the overall cost?
  • Customer Support: Which support channels and resources are available, during which hours, and on which plans?

How we describe our sources

Our editorial standard is to distinguish between:

  • Hands-on observations: Features or workflows we directly use in a stated testing context.
  • Vendor documentation: Information published by the software provider, such as pricing pages, help articles, and feature descriptions.
  • Publicly available information: Other identifiable public sources, with references where relevant.

Vendor claims and public information should not be presented as our own test results. Where we have not tested a feature, we should say so.

When hands-on testing is performed

The review should identify the testing date or period, subscription plan, features examined, and relevant limitations.

Observations from a trial account or a limited workflow should not be generalized to every plan or use case. Any deliverability testing should explain its method, conditions, and limitations. Results from one test do not guarantee future delivery.

Recommendations and commercial relationships

Recommendations should explain which needs a tool may suit and which trade-offs readers should consider. Commercial relationships should not determine editorial conclusions.

Where relevant, commercial relationships should be clearly disclosed. Our Affiliate Disclosure explains how potential affiliate links would be handled.

Updates and corrections

Software changes over time. Readers should verify current prices, features, and terms with the provider before purchasing.
